Flea Comb

They make flea combs that you can use that pull out the fleas. Have a bowl of warm soapy water by you to drown the fleas in. Focus on belly, armpits and groin area where fleas hang out the most. If you don’t have a flea comb, use a fine tooth comb, it works well too.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This doesn’t kill the fleas but will force them to leave your cats fur, and they will jump off your pet. In a bottle mix 2:1 proportions of apple cider and water, shake and spray your cat’s coat. Then with a comb brush your cat’s fur. Make sure to do this outside or in the bathtub with a bowl of soapy warm water to dip the brush in to kill the fleas when you get them removed from your cat.

Soapy Water Trick

We did this when we were little. In a shallow dish place a container with soapy water under a night light. Fleas will be attracted to light and jump into the dish and die overnight. This will help eliminate the fleas that are in your home, to lessen them getting on your cat!

Clean Home

Make sure you are keeping your home nice and clean, this will help keep fleas away. Keep the floor and carpets cleaned, this will interrupt the life cycle of the fleas.  When you have a flea outbreak it is recommended that you vacuum daily and dump out the stuff you suck up outside as it could have flea eggs, larvae or even fleas. Clean your cat’s bedding and even spray vinegar on it, fleas do not like vinegar.

Earl Grey Tea

Earl Grey tea is a natural repellent to fleas! Sprinkle a tea bag over your carpet and let it sit for an hour, and then vacuum it up. This will help kill any fleas in your carpet. You can even do this on your cat’s bedding.

Vinegar Spray

Pour some white distilled vinegar into a spray bottle, and use this to spray around the home. This home remedy for fleas on cats will repel and kill adult fleas! Granted your home will smell like vinegar, but you can get rid of pesky fleas!

Rosemary Plants

If you want to do some landscaping plant some rosemary plants outside. This is a natural flea repellant and will keep the fleas from wanting to come up close to your home if you have rosemary plants around it!

I rescued 3 ferals last year and have tamed them enough to live indoors. To help with their ‘natural wild nature’, I had a catio built for them (8’x8’x4’wide, tarped for protection from sun/rain and fully fenced from any predators) on patio stones, so no grass. They use the basement window to access freely. This however, did not save us from fleas this year….ugh. I can comb and put drops on 2 of them, but Sassy, alas, has always been the more cautious one and won’t let me near her for the drops, so it is impossible to completely get rid of these pests, even with vacuuming, mopping, flea traps (all very helpful, but she is still the main carrier).
Any ideas how to ‘calm’ this elusive kit? She watches my every move from a safe distance and if I get within a couple of feet of her, she’s on the run. Appreciate ANY help!

  • Hi, this Is wonderful. Keep up the good work. Appreciate all the efforts you put in here. Stay safe!
