Does Your Cat Need A Routine for Their Well Being?

By Kelsey Apley 6 years agoNo Comments

I can easily say I live and thrive when I stick to a routine. But does your cat need a routine just like you? When my routine gets messed up my stress level rises. I can begin to feel lost or even confused at what the next step is for me. Routines are something we get accustomed to without even realizing it. Just think of when you shower, do you go through the same process every time? How you wash your hair, body, shave, it all is so routine. So does your cat need a routine for their well being? Let me answer that for you.

Maybe they are used to you going to bed at a certain time every night. Or even that you and your spouse are home at supper together. When those regular routines change, will it give your feline anxiety or make them feel uncomfortable?

Will Your Cat Need A Routine To Be Happy?

Cats are a creature of habit, and having that solid routine brings them comfort. Having a routine that your cat can follow will bring them a sense of peace and well being. For humans, we might find a routine to feel boring or predictable but a cat needs a routine in their life.

One way to keep your cat happy is to create a routine that they know and can rely on. Whether it be when they eat, how things are set up in your home, and even the time you go to bed. Habits are what help cats thrive.

Can a Change In Routine Cause Your Cat To Get Sick?

There was a study done at Ohio State that showed even when a healthy cat had significant changes to their daily routine they ended up sick more often. Even healthy cats who showed no symptoms got sick 1.9 times more often.

So as you can see these habits that we create, truly matter to our cats.

Keeping A Solid Routine For Your Cat

Make sure your cat is comfortable and happy and try to keep a somewhat consistent routine. Make sure you open the blinds if that is something you generally do each day for them to look out. Feed them consistently,  have a routine playtime.

Now every cat is different and not all cats will be highly affected if their routine changes. Some cats though will find a few changes in their routine can leave them feeling extra stressed and worked up. Just look at your cat and really exam their behavior to see if the changes you are making are in fact affecting their well being.
