Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Cat Over One From a Breeder or Pet Store

I am a huge advocate for people to adopt a cat instead of going out and buying pure breeds. Yes, pure breeds deserve homes too, but I also know that there are so many unwanted cats and dogs that need a forever home, or they get euthanized. If you are in a debate of adding a kitty to your family, I highly recommend adopting a cat! I am going to share some compelling reasons for you to consider on why you should adopt a cat over one from a breeder or pet store.

Reasons Why to Adopt a Cat

The Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Cat

I personally am a huge animal lover of all kinds. When we moved to the country almost two years ago, there was one cat that was left here as it was wild. We made sure to put food out each day for the cat, so that it had food, even though we barely got to see the cat as it was so scared, we named the cat Tabasco! Then awhile later someone came and dropped off an orange cat on the side of the road and then moved into our barn to live. When you live in the country, some people take their animals and throw them out on the side of the road. You never know what animal will show up at your doorstep! I just can’t say no to an animal! We have adopted many animals over the years, as we believe all animals need love!

Adopting a cat is a lot of responsibility, and you want to make sure you are ready to take on the challenge of owning a pet. Buying food, giving them attention, playing with them, changing their litter box, and more. When you feel you are ready, consider the different reasons as to why adopting is a great route to go and why you should adopt a cat. You might even consider adopting a senior cat.

Why Adopt A Cat Instead Of Shopping At A Pet Store or Breeder

Why You Should Adopt a Cat

Many To Choose From

Most shelters have tons of cats at all times, kittens, older cats, and all colors and sizes. It is a great way to see a variety of cats and kittens and find one that you feel an instant connection with!

Ready to Go

When a cat or dog enters a shelter, they are required to be up to date on shots and immunizations as well as generally spayed or neutered. So, after you pick out your perfect cat, you are ready to take them home and you don’t have to worry about them not being current on things. They also send home some packaged food, toys, any special goodies at most shelters.

Generally Housebroken

Many times they are already housebroken, as they learn to use a litter box while in the shelter. You set up your litter box and your cat will know what to do. It helps save you from having to train your cat where to use the bathroom. Just show them where you put the litter box and you’re good to go. Now if you get a kitten, you might have to work with them a little!

Hunters by Nature

As you know our cats live outside mostly, we live in the country, and they are great at catching mice, and other rodents roaming around you don’t want in your home! Even if your cat lives indoors, if you have a mouse sneak in, they will probably catch it! They are avid hunters by nature.

Play Time

No matter what the age of your cat you decide, they love play time! It is a great way to entertain you and your cat, create a bonding time, and teach them some new tricks!

Many Cuddles

Cats are loving by nature and love to give affection and attention! Rescuing a shelter cat, I have found they are extra loving. If you need some cuddles to lift your spirits, they got you covered!  This alone is one of the best reasons why you should adopt a cat.

Personality

All cats offer a mix of personality traits, some love to play more, others want to be cuddled more. It is so fun getting a cat and learning their fun personality! Cats can be pretty low maintenance, and adopting a cat you save their life and offer them, love, they deserve.

Save a Life

Most importantly, you can save a cats life! This is the most important reason why you should adopt a cat! Not all animal shelters will euthanize, but there are some that don’t have enough space and do. You will bring love and joy to a cats life, and don’t we all deserve a little love?

Are you a believer in adopting a cat instead of purchasing from a pet store or breeder?
