Instead of buying cat bowls based on the color or pretty design pattern, take a deeper look at the bowls so you can find the right fit for your cat. Here are a variety of things you need to consider with your home, cat, and what you think is the best fit for your feline. You might be amazed at all the thought that goes into what cat bowls to buy!

Questions To Consider On What Cat Bowls To Buy

When you buy cat bowls that fit your cat’s needs, you will see them eating and drinking with ease. If the bowls are too high, they may not be able to eat all their food in the bowl.  This may cause them to constantly tip and spill their bowls. Making sure you buy the right depth and size is important.

SKIP Plastic Bowls

The first thing I want to start with is recommending skipping plastic bowls. Plastic can hold bacteria and develop scratches and nicks when it gets cleaned, and that can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Plus plastic can cause acne, and some cats can be allergic or have skin sensitivity to it.  You don’t want a bowl that can build bacteria fast, and risk getting your cat sick.

Ceramic Or Stainless Steel

Stainless steel or ceramic are the two that I recommend. One thing about stainless steel is they are unbreakable, whereas ceramic if dropped will break. One thing to look for if you buy ceramic is that it has a lead-free glaze.  This is so it isn’t toxic to your cat.

Size and Depth

Consider the size of your cat. If they are smaller in size, you need to make sure the cat bowls are not super deep. They might not be able to reach the food and water at the bottom of a deep bowl easily. Or if you have a cat that has more of a flat face, they will need dishes that have a slight angle or with elevation. If you buy a cat bowl set that is elevated this is great for larger cats. They won’t have to bend down as far to eat and drink. It can help their neck and joints when they don’t have to bend as far down. If you have a smaller sized cat than consider leaving the bowls on the floor.

As for depth consider how much of a serving of cat food and water you want in the bowl. If you are feeding multiple cats you might look for a deeper bowl. Cats can be sensitive to their whiskers touching the edge of the bowl. If you notice your cat is struggling you might need a larger or deeper bowl. If watch your cat and find a bowl that they enjoy, you will see they do well eating their meals, instead of being so picky.

 Cat Mats

A cat mat is generally made from a rubber material and these are great for being able to help anchor the bowls so they don’t move around. Plus it is great for catching water drips and food that drops. They wash clean and are really handy.

Clean Bowls Often

Make sure you clean your cat bowls often. I like to change out water each day, and give it a bit of a rinse. Cats can get their water messy fast with little droplets of food. You want to make sure their food and water is fresh.
